42nd Athens Marathon The Authentic

Feel the pulse of history at Amalia Hotel Athens

Every November, Athens transforms into a city full of energy, excitement, and inspiration. Streets fill with runners, volunteers, applause, and smiles. It’s the time of the Athens Authentic Marathon, a 42.2-kilometer race that is not merely an athletic event, but a true symbol of endurance, strength, and spirit.

The Marathon was born here, in Greece, inspired by the legendary feat of Pheidippides, the Athenian messenger who, in 490 BC, ran from Marathon to Athens to announce the victory of the Greeks over the Persians. After delivering his message, “We have won,” he collapsed from exhaustion, leaving behind an everlasting legacy of courage and devotion. Centuries later, in 1896, the Marathon became an official Olympic sport at the first Modern Olympic Games in Athens. Since then, thousands of runners from around the world return each year to the birthplace of the Marathon, to follow the authentic route from Marathon to the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro).

Every year, during the Athens uthentic Marathon, Amalia Hotel Athens becomes a vibrant hub of hospitality for athletes and visitors from across the globe. With its strategic location on Amalias Avenue, just a short distance from the finish line, the hotel is the perfect choice for both participants and spectators. Yet Amalia Hotel Athens is not just a hotel in the city, it is a window into history, a place where the past meets the present. Overlooking the Panathenaic Stadium and the National Garden, and only steps away from Syntagma Square, it stands right in the heart of the Marathon route, offering a unique hospitality experience that blends comfort, tradition, and the vibrant energy of Athens on Marathon Day.

The Amalia Hotels group on the path of green transformation

Sustainable Tourism

A key characteristic of Amalia hotels for over 50 years is the harmonious connection of the past with the future and the dedication to the development of tourism. In this context, the group develops by embracing modern trends and creates new strategies that respect the protection of the environment for the benefit of society and future generations! Amalia Hotels base their vision on the implementation of a sustainable policy that adopts the development of sustainable tourism.

Daily, our team focuses on the goal of reducing the environmental footprint and enhancing social contribution with dedication and commitment. Recently, Amalia Hotel Athens was awarded by the Municipality of Athens and the Association of Hoteliers of Athens – Attica and Argosaronica with a “special badge” for participating in the Bio-Waste Collection Program. In twelve months, the hotel adopting in practice the principles of the circular economy, collected 4000 kg of bio-waste, which instead of ending up in a landfill, is being composted.

The effort to deal with the effects of the climate crisis is ongoing, as the management of Amalia Hotels has taken measures to save energy and water in the hotels. Indicative examples are the use of geothermal energy for heating, cooling and hot water at the Amalia Hotel Nafplio, while the Amalia Hotel Kalambaka has a biological treatment of liquid waste, with the final product being used for the irrigation of gardens. Actions like these are included in the Green Key certification, which focuses on increasing the use of environmentally friendly and sustainable operating practices and technologies in our facilities.

Taking into account the country’s ambitious climate goals under the European Green Deal, Amalia hotels are committed to minimizing their environmental footprint and encouraging sustainable travel initiatives, improving the sustainability performance of all 6 hotels (Amalia Hotel Athens, Amalia Hotel Nafplio, Amalia Hotel Delphi, Amalia Hotel Olympia, Amalia Hotel Meteora, Margarona Royal).

Our aim is to continue to offer high quality tourism services and experiences to our visitors, while having a positive impact on local communities, reducing the waste of natural resources and contributing to the restoration and protection of the environment.
