42nd Athens Marathon The Authentic
Every November, Athens transforms into a city full of energy, excitement, and inspiration. Streets fill with runners, volunteers, applause, and smiles. It’s the time of the Athens Authentic Marathon, a 42.2-kilometer race that is not merely an athletic event, but a true symbol of endurance, strength, and spirit.
The Marathon was born here, in Greece, inspired by the legendary feat of Pheidippides, the Athenian messenger who, in 490 BC, ran from Marathon to Athens to announce the victory of the Greeks over the Persians. After delivering his message, “We have won,” he collapsed from exhaustion, leaving behind an everlasting legacy of courage and devotion. Centuries later, in 1896, the Marathon became an official Olympic sport at the first Modern Olympic Games in Athens. Since then, thousands of runners from around the world return each year to the birthplace of the Marathon, to follow the authentic route from Marathon to the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro).
